Sooo interesting

This guy speaks with such confidence, about absolute bullshit. When people speak with confidence, that doesn’t mean that they know they are right. They are just confident about being right. But confidence doesn’t mean shit when people are dumb, or they have misconceived of a certain situation. In that scenario, they are just confident in the validity of what is in fact a misconception. So don’t listen to people just because they talk with an air of confidence, or intelligence on a subject.

Ask, “what is the validity of their underlying arguments?”

This semblance of intelligence or authority can be created in many different ways.

Just by positioning your profile pic as someone associated with intelligence and authority.

Associated by who? Well, by a certain niche of people, or more generally, the general population. A certain social institution of value, which values some people highly, and others not so highly.

That which Sotheby’s sells derives its value from mimetic value — or other people thinking they are valuable. If you wear them, or own them, then other people might think you are valuable — plus all the connotations associated with that individual piece.

Where does their value come from? Why do we want them? Because other people do.
